In the complex and confusing and rapidly changing world of Italian wines, there is major help available to keep current and knowledgeable. Various web sites, we have found, can be trolled and examined to yield the specific information you may be looking for, or to just expand your basic knowledge.

Here are some recommended links:

www.italianmade.com
(paste this into your browser)

a presentation of the Italian Trade Association. An incredibly complete and encyclopedic presentation of all aspects of Italian wines and wine-making. It seems every possible wine type is covered, with lots of ancillary information. Includes well-done maps, vintage charts and discussions of wine and foods. Written in large part by Burton Anderson.

www.made-in-italy.com/winefood/wine

a British-oriented site with an introduction by Victor Hazan and a quickly useful but limited presentation of regions and wines.

www.thewinedoctor.com

a single web page that is succinct and pithy. Features recommended selected producers. Also British (Odd Bins appears here).

www.wineloverspage.com/italwineguide

The writings, insights and recommendations of Tom Hyland, a Chicago-based wine writer. Well written, up-to-the-minute (or at least month) articles. Well written and good stuff. Not encyclopedic.

www.italianwinesdirectclub.com

They sell wines from this site of course, but there are monthly newsletters with useful non-commercial information.
